Mutual Understanding of Global Issues (MUGI)

The student association has just initiated a collaboration between The Danish-Egyptian Dialouge Institute, the Centre for European Studies at Cairo University, and International Debate. The collaboration is the fruitful result of hard labour of both the current and former boards of the student association and official recognized by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) which has choosen to financially support the very unique project. An introduction to the project
The project itself, entitled "Mutual Understand of Global Issues", will hopefully create a foundation for mutual understanding of global issues. In order to obtain this goal, an Egyptian board, a Danish board and a Steering Committee has been created with the hope of securing this mutual understanding trough dialogue and not least public debates. The Egyptian board will be situated at Cairo University and consist of Egyptian students from the university, whereas the Danish board will be situated at the University of Copenhagen and consist of Danish student, exclusively from the Department of Policital Science. All resources put into the joint collaboration will hopefully consolidate into four public debates, two at Cairo and two at Copenhagen, besides new platforms for communication between not only Egyptian and Danish students, but the broader Danish and Egyptian populations. As something completely new for the student association, all the debates will be broadcasted via the internet to either Cairo or Copenhagen from the given university where the debate will be held. E.g. if the debate is going to be held at the University of Copenhagen, the students will provide and maintain an uplink to Cairo University so the students and Egyptian citizens will be able to follow the debate from Cairo! However, this will not be the only initiative, as the student association together with the partners will arrange for viewers at the other university to participate live through asking questions and provide comments for the panelists! The dates of the debatesFirst debate: "New Media and Global Politics", November 10, 2009 Second debate: "Consumerism", December 15, 2009 Third debate: "Nuclear Programs", March 2010 (Exclusively in Cairo) Fourth and final debate: (No title yet), late spring, 2010 The Danish board The Danish board consists of eight students, all from the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
