International Debate is a students’ association connected to the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen. We facilitate academic debates on topics in International Relations. We attract prominent scholars, journalists, politicians, officials, etc. from all societal and political strata, promoting a vigorous and progressive research environment at our institution. Contact us at kontakt @ international-debat.dk The Board: Nicholas Butts (Chairman): Nicholas is a student of Political Science & International Relations on his 3rd year of undergraduate studies. In addition to his studies, Nicholas is employed with the largest Danish private company, the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, where he is a Public Affairs Analyst working with political and economic analysis, strategic communication and public relations for the Executive Board and individual business units such as Maersk Oil, Maersk Line, DAMCO, APM Terminals etc. He came from a position as Strategy Implementation Associate working with security, CSR, climate and environment for Maersk Line and he has been appointed to the Steering Committee for Students @ Maersk. Furthermore, Nicholas has been selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be liaison officer to the Republic of Turkey and the European Commissioners during the Danish EU Presidency in 2012. He has previously worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including working as an attaché to the press and later personal liaison officer to H.E. President Marcus Stephen during COP15. Nicholas is also a freelance writer for the leading Danish political magazine, Ræson. As President of International Debat, Nicholas was invited by the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Villy Søvndal, to discuss the new government’s foreign policy. Nicholas also manages International Debate’s engagement, including the hiring of five student assistants, as named partner in “The Great Debate”, which is financed by the EU Commission and coordinated by Nyt Europa.

Mona has been active in International Debate in about one and a half year. During this time she has among others been the organizer of the debate with the title ‘’Water in the Middle East - The oil of the future? and the discussion about Homegrown Terrorists. Beside her studies, Mona has a student job in the Division for Democratic Issues which is a part of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.

Sophia Wathne (Cashier): Sophia Wathne is currently studying Political Science on her 4th semester, at Copenhagen University. She has been a volunteer in ID since her first year at Political Science, and besides her studies and ID she is working for Academic Books.

Klara Christensen (Cashier):Klara studies Political Science in second year at Copenhagen University, and she has been an active member of ID since the beginning of her studies. Klara has for the second time been elected as student representative for the Institute’s Board of Studies, where she among other things is part of the Committee of Revision of the Bachelor’s degree at the Institute of Political Science. Apart from her studies Klara also works as a student assistant at the Middle East department of the Danish Institute for International Studies. In the summer 2011 she participated in the summer school Global Politics of Protest and Change at London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Besides the study, Oliver is employed at the Center for Military Studies (CMS) at the University of Copenhagen, and was prior to that a student at the Prime Minister's Office. Oliver has been active in arranging the debates “Election 2011 – The Politicians' Finals” and “360 Arctic”. Besides his engagement in ID, Oliver is a member of the board in Network for Strategic Studies under CMS.
